Disney Mashes-Up Inside Out and Star Wars, Is Coming For Your Mash-Up Hobby

If inter-Disney synergy porn is your thing, you’re probably reading this after watching the above video of Pixar’s Inside Out emotions watching the final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. When I read the title of this video, I assumed that some ambitious mash-up artist on YouTube just slapped the two hot properties together to take advantage of the internet’s love of mixing any two things that people love. I was wrong. Disney made this themselves.

If you’re still reading this, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. Mixing things that people already like, things with existing audiences and emotion connected to them, is the secret to success on these internets. It’s really that simple. Stuck for ideas? Mix Disney Princesses with ice cream. BOOM. VIRAL. THAT EASY. Now go out and use the rule of mixing things to make millions of dollars out in the tubes. Just let me know how, if and when you do.

Anyway, being one of the biggest of the media giants, Disney owns both Pixar (and their colorful emotions) as well as Lucasfilm (what with the Han Solos of the world). When you own those kinds of intellectual properties, you can mash ’em up, throw ’em up on the web, and (read this next part in the voice of a maniacal villain) STOP EVERYONE ELSE FROM DOING THE SAME BECAUSE YOU HAVE THE COPYRIGHT MWAHAHAHAHA. Sorry. But, yeah. Disney was able to use the rule of mixing things in order to create a supercommercial that promotes both the release of Star Wars (December 18th, 2015) and the release of the Inside Out Blu-Ray (November 3rd, 2015). Honestly, I’m surprised we haven’t seen more of this. Especially because now I want to give Disney all of my money.
